Annual Presentation Evening 30 April 2010, Wodson Park, Ware

Report by Maureen Perez and Vicky Perez

Hertford Heath Rangers held a highly successful presentation evening at Wodson Park, which was very well supported by players and their families - thank you for making the night so successful.

We arrived at the Wadesmill Suite for 6.00pm to set up.  The helpers were; Julie, Amanda, Maria, Kim and Gemma carefully putting out the buffet food, worrying there would not be enough food to go around - although, after all the fretting, it turned out we had more than plenty!  Senior player, Lynn, very kindly baked a numerous variety of scrummy cakes which proved so popular, they didn't last very long! Maddy Pearson's mum, Sue, was setting up her DJ equipment for the disco and Maureen and Vicky set out the presentation trophies.

The presentation started just after 8.00pm and the awards were as follows:

HHR Team of the Year 09/10 - Foxes

The Foxes were awarded 'HHR Team of the Year' because Netball is a team sport and it is the team as a whole who affects the outcome of a match - the Foxes positive attitude and respect to each other and their opponents throughout the season has been an inspiration. We are very proud of what the Foxes have achieved and how they share positions and never question coaches decisions. They have improved immensely over this last year and that is why we are very proud to be presenting this award for the first time to our Under 15 Foxes Team.

Lynn Prentice and Maureen Perez

Congratulations to all those that received an award and, once again to everyone, thank you for coming - we look forward to next year's presentation for those up and coming players!

A Word from Chairperson, Maureen Perez

Special mention must go to our U17 team, Ravens, who have gone from strength to strength in the many years they have been playing for the Club.  This year, they played for the first time in the Turnford Mercury Winter League finishing second in their division and will be moving up to a higher division  in September - pipping the seniors to the post, who came in third place!

Our U16 team, Falcons, have had many changes to contend with throughout the season and we are currently revamping the team by bringing in some older players which is currently underway.  The team seem to be getting along nicely and I am sure, come the new season in September, the team will progress further.

Our U11 team, Hawks, are a naturally talented team and through their development and training will become even better! The girls have done so well during the winter season coming runners up in the Broxbourne District League - they have played remarkably throughout the season and I have received many compliments from other clubs.  The girls have been awarded runner up Trophies, which will be handed out to them in the near future.  I have to apologise to the Hawks as I did mean to say a little something at the presentation evening but, with the night being so hectic, I completely forgot - sorry girls!

I would like to acknowledge the Committee Members and Coaches that have given up their free time to help with the running of the club, without you, the club would not be able to function!  Your support is invaluable and I thank you all for your very hard work, be it the endless administration and organisation or the practical side of being at training sessions and matches, sometimes in the freezing cold pouring rain - that really is dedication!

Final Word from Amanda Davies

It’s now my turn to say a few words on behalf of the Committee and the Club as a whole.

HHR‘s reputation is as a friendly netball club, where members feel like they are part of a family, and that’s hardly a surprise when you remember that the Club is actually a family concern!

We have Mo at the helm, steering us on to success, and there’s Vicky out on deck, not only playing for Rangers and coaching the Vixens team but also sitting on the Committee and offering an encouraging voice to the younger Club members.

However, there is also another equally important member of the Perez family working deep down in the engine house. Her role in the Club isn’t one that takes the limelight – it’s one that most sane people would shy away from – but it’s most certainly a role that cannot be underestimated or undervalued. I’m talking about Maria, of course. Maria, we would like to publicly thank you for all that you have done for the Club over the last year or so. Few people at Rangers know the amount of time and effort you have put in to revamping the Club’s admin procedures, simplifying the subscription and invoicing system, maintaining all the Club’s records for both juniors and seniors, and managing the waiting list for new joiners. You ensure everyone is kept well-informed and that new girls are able to join Rangers with ease.

And if the day-to-day running of the Club wasn’t enough, Maria is now guiding the Committee as we set our sights on gaining a CAPS accreditation. I feel exhausted just thinking about all that you do – and the fact that you have done all of this whilst juggling a full-time job is even more amazing.

We’ve heard from a reliable source (well, from your mum) that you are about to move into your own place, which you will no doubt do with the same effortless efficiency, and we hope that this small token of our thanks for all your hard work will come in handy in your new home.

So once again, thank you from everyone at the Club.
