The Summer Season 2008 was probably the busiest yet for the club and I’d like to say a big well done and thank you to every player for their commitment and hard work. The juniors have been fantastic turning up for training sessions, league matches and countless tournaments throughout the summer season. We have senior girls playing sometimes up to three times a week and some of our players making lengthy journeys to play for us in the evenings, this type of commitment can't be valued enough.
I am hoping in the not too distance future that things will be made slightly easier with new coaches coming onboard. I'd like to say a huge thank you to Hayley Varney, Vicky Perez, Claire Page, Lynn Prentice and husband Keith, who will be going for their Level 1 coaching certificates in November. Their support is much appreciated and will hugely benefit the club, meaning we will be able to start planning our CAPS awards.
Our secretaries have been fantastic support for the club. Denise has been brilliant in organising fundraising events, taking care of the administration for the juniors (which is literally volumes of paperwork!!), attending meetings with the Parish Council to promote the club, organising tours and to see England netball matches - the list could go on! Maria looks after the administration and organising of the senior section which is very hard work and time consuming with the constant texting and emails and now even having to attend league meetings. Thank you to both Denise and Maria as without your help, there wouldn't be a club and thank you for keeping me organised even if I do manage to lose my car keys every match!!
Also, parents have been a fantastic help and support contributing so much to the club and being there for us when needed.
Sponsors / Fundraisers
If it was not for the help of our sponsors, Skardin Industrial and PTS and the Parish Council, we would not have been able to do so much throughout the season. Their support has been fantastic and is very much appreciated.
We held our annual stall and netball shoot out competition at the Hertford Heath Village Fete. The theme for this years stall was a sweet tombola, raffle and cakes. This year we raised £260 for club funds, our best yet. Thank you to those girls who provided cakes and for everyone who came down to lend their support on the day.
Tournaments / Tours
This summer season was the busiest yet for tournaments - at times it seemed like I was spending more time in the gazebo than my own house!
For the first time, our Year 9 girls took part in the Under 14's Regional Netball Festival, which took place at Stanborough School, WGC. The girls played brilliantly in what is a very tough standard of netball and I am very proud of them for their excellent performance!
The junior netball tour to Pontins was a great success and good fun for everyone. It was a very tiring weekend with the long journey in the coach and very competitive matches over the Saturday and Sunday. Tours such as these require a lot of determination and hard work and we are so very proud of everyone for keeping their momentum with their pleasant and respectful attitudes.
Although very tiring and quite stressful at times, as a whole, the summer season was good fun and I'm very pleased with the junior and senior girls we have onboard and am looking forward to the Winter season 2008/09!!!
